In WinXP is it possible to print a list of what is in a folder? For instance
in a folder that contains 50 photographs is it possible to print a text list
of the names of the photographs?
Many thanks

It's possible but requires a little work on your part:

You can do it from a Command Window.

Go to Start, Run, type in CMD and press enter.
CD to the folder you want. **
If you want a text file with the list of pictures, just type in DIR >Pictures.txt and press Enter. A text file will be
created in the same folder. If you type in DIR /? you'll get a full list of directory filters, such as DIR /B
>Pictures.txt will create a text file of just the picture names without the dates, etc.
Then you can print out the text file.

**If you search on line for XP Powertoys, you'll find one that's for "Command Prompt Here." Install it, and then go to
your folder in Explorer, right-click on the folder name, and select Command Prompt Here. This will open a command window
in that folder, then you can do the DIR thing.

If you have an older parallel printer that's connected to LPT1 on your PC, you can print out the folder directory
directly using dir /B>lpt1 . Unfortunately, that doesn't work with USB printers without going through the NET USE
command first, and even then, it doesn't always work. In that case, just sent the DIR to a text file, then print it with
Notepad or your favorite text editor.

You're welcome. Please post back with what you decide to use. Curiosity,
the cat, etc..

If I'm not mistaken, Karen's Directory Printer will let you save the
list as a text file. You can also use a little different batch file to
do the same thing. Depends on what you're trying to do.

Both yesterday and today when I go to this site:

http://www.karenware.com/powertools.asp

and click on Directory Printer 5.3.2 I receive a window to the effect
"site not found" and cannot download.

The same for this site reached by right clicking on Directory Printer:

http://www.karenware.com/progs/ptdirprn-setup.exe.

receive a file not found popup:
http://www.karenware.com/progs/ptdirprn-setup.exe.

Also I checked compatibility that reads that it's also fine for Win7,
even though the last update was 2009.

Today it downloaded; however will not install. File name is
ptdirprn-setup.exe 7kb. When I double click on it receive warning
window that it is not a valid win32 app. Perhaps it won't operate on
win7, pro 64bit.

"Download and run to install Directory Printer 1,295,704 bytes"

7kb looks like an aborted download

You're right! Strange, I had to download it 4 times before a
complete version came along which was 1266kb.
