I've tried safe mode, uninstall and system restore and now I'm out of ideas
apart from the floppy disk start up gamble.
Open the Registry Editor...
Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to >>
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer
See if there is a Value Name called NoDrives or NoViewOnDrive in the right
hand pane.
Do the same for..
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
These explain NoDrives and NoViewOnDrive.
Hide Drives in My Computer
[[This setting allows you to control which drives are visible in My Computer
and Explorer. It is possible to hide all drives or just selected ones.]]

Prevent Access to the Contents of Selected Drives
[[This restriction prevents users from using My Computer or Explorer to
access the content of selected drives. Also, they cannot use Run, Map
Network Drive, or the Dir command to view the directories on these drives.]]

In news:264C55CF-1318-4952...@microsoft.com,
In regedt32 I find the following:
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\... \Policies there is no entry for Explorer.
Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\... \Policies\Explorer there are no value names for
NoDrives or NoDriveOnView but there is NoDriveTypeAutoRun with a value of hex
91. I guess this is not what you were referring to.
I'm going to try re-installing Windows and if I can get back to this
newsgroup before nightfall I'll tell if it worked.
Regards Lee
Many thanks for your help.

If your password is lost or forgotten you can reset it using Active@
Password Changer tool. That is a really useful soft, it can perform the
operation quickly and is user friendly. Give it a try in case, that
should help.
