Hi
I've tried to format my C drive after installing "media centre edition" and
install "XP Professional" but it refuses to recognise the key. I've tried to
delete/format the drive but it only allows me to reinstall without
formatting the HD. I've tried numerous times but it won't let me format the
C drive at all and leaves previous user accounts and previous programs on
the drive.

I wanted to start with a completely clean drive but alas it's not allowing
me to. Has anyone got some clues for me to follow? I'm getting rather
annoyed that I can't do a clean install of XP Pro.

Thanks
Linda

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Just boot from the Windows XP CD (change the BIOS boot order if necessary to
accomplish this) and follow the prompts for a clean installation (delete the
existing partition by pressing "D" when prompted, then create a new one).

You can find detailed instructions here:

or here http://windowsxp.mvps.org/XPClean.htm

or here http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/clean_install.htm

But why do you want to do this? Are you aware that Windows XP Professional
is a subset of XP Media Center, and there's nothing in XP Professional
that's not also in Media Center, except the ability to join a domain (and
very few home users need that). Doing this is very likely not worth the cost
and effort.
