After trying to open this programme I get the following message:

Microsoft works cannot access one or more files it needs to run. These files
may have been renamed, deleted or moved.

If anyone could inform me of how to obtain these files or advise, it would
be much appreciated.

Thanks 2705gemini

Goto control panel > Add or Remove Programs > Scroll down to Microsoft
Works. Click on "Change", then "Next" and finally "Reinstall". Have your
Microsoft Works install cd handy.

Hi Merlin, thanks for the advice, I did try what you said but I get the
message;

The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occurr if you
are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not
correctly installed.

Can anyone tell me how can I tell if I am running windows in safe mode?

Or advise me on how to install the windows installer?

Much appreciated. 2705gemini.

Hi Merlin, thanks again for your time and advise.

I followed the link to microsoft support and tried two methods;

Method 1 - Re-regeister the windows installer

But I could not locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer

So i tried Method 2 - Re-install the windows installer

But when entering the following lines at the command prompt one at a time
pressing enter after each -it says that the system cannot find the file
specified

ren msi.dll msi.old
ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old
ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old

If you have any advice on what to do next Merlin it would be appreciated.

Advice by anyone else is also welcomed.

Thanks 2705gemini.

cd\windows\system32\dllcache

Now your screen should look like this

c:\windows\system32\dllcache>

Then type these commands

How do I find out if windows is running in safe mode?

After trying to open the above programme I get the following message:

Microsoft works cannot access one or more files it needs to run. These files
may have been renamed, deleted or moved.

I have tried the following;

Goto control panel > Add or Remove Programs > Scroll down to Microsoft
Works. Click on "Change", then "Next" and finally "Reinstall".

But get the following message;

The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occurr if you
are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not
correctly installed.

Tried the info on this site;

and this one;

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q315346

tried these methods;

Method 1 - Re-regeister the windows installer

But I could not locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer

So i tried Method 2 - Re-install the windows installer

But when entering the following lines at the command prompt one at a time

pressing enter after each it then diplays - a duplicate exists or the file
cannot be found.

cd\windows\system32\dllcache

ren msi.dll msi.old
ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old
ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old

I dont know what to try next

If anyone knows of a solution I would be very grateful.

Thanks 2705gemini
