Hi All,

I wonder if someone might know how to fix this. I Recently used Ghost on a
win2k system to move the system to a new computer/workstation. I Ghosted the
entire System using Ghost 7.0, moving files from the existing 20 gig Win2k
to 80 gig Win2K. After copying everything, I upgraded these hard drives to
Windows XP pro (The New 80 GIG Drives). I atttached the Drives to the New
system after removing drivers specific tothe old system, i started the New
XP system, did a Repair, and the System booted up and i finished installing
drivers in safe mode..

I log in as administrator, and changed the name of the system so it would
(in the Future) conflict with the old system that this system was Ghosted
from. there is One NTFS Drive on C, all other 8 drives are fat32.

All drives have the Readonly Attribute LOCKED..by that i mean i remove it on
the Fat32 drives, it does a scan of sub directories, and says it removed it.
But If I click on the Same folder either immediately after, or after reboot,
the Read only attibute is still set?

How can i corect this problem? is there some thing lingering from the Old
Win2K system in the registry that i need to edit? I cannot install all
drivers that i want as i get access Violation on the video drivers but not
other drivers?

Any Help would be greatly appreciated
TIA

I'm sorry i dont understand your message. What do you mean there is no need
to Remove Read Only? What do you mean by Parse the desktop? the reason i
thought the read Only was the Problem was because i could not Update a video
Driver, i keep getting Access denied even though i am administrator. I
thought that the read Only attribute stopped the writting to a folder or a
file Marked as Read only. Can you please Explain?

thanks

Explorer won't let you break folders in XP. If you must screw up your
machine use attrib (must have permission to the folder on NTFS). However
there is no need to remove RO from a folder. It DOES NOT mean read only when
applied to a folder, it means parse the desktop.ini (as does the system
attribute).

It doesn't stop the writing of a directory. It has nothing to do with read only when applied to a folder, only when applied to a file. There are configuration files in some folders and readonly or system means to read the config file called desktop.ini.

Your cause of access denied lies elsewhere. Look at permissions or if the file is being used.

David,

I needed to install Video Drivers for XP. I ran the NVidia Drivers Package,
everything expanded, it added all the files to a directory , a setup
started, files looked like they were being writting and it looked like it
was ready to register the components, then i got a message saying, an "Error
Occured, Access denied"

thanks what happened.

could i have broiught over some form of security from the original system
from which this system was cloned that i need to assume ownership? Like the
registry or some other protected files?

thanks alot

Ask Nvidia. I've been looking to see if it makes a log file but there doesn't seem to be this option. Alternatively get filemon and regmon from www.sysinternals.com and find out what is accessed denied which will also say why..
