internet explorer crash's after auto update

Hi all, yeterday my pc downloaded and installed various MS updates and
security fixes as it does periodically through auto update. However I know
have lots of trouble with IE and it keeps crashing particularly when trying
to open Ebay.
There where various updates downloaded mostly security fixes but 1 was an XP
update, should I uninstall that update or does anyone have any info?

I would suggest you uninstall KB942615 which gave me problems.

Adding to mark advice, try these steps, could you tell us what Anti-virus you
are using and what firewall also installed on this machine?.
Check your history updates for " Failed" installed updates that can cause
this issue.
This issue can happen if one of these updates is corrupt/damaged either by
the Anti-virus forked this updates(s) or by the updates forked one of the BHO
on the browser.
Go through these Cleaning steps:
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Tabs:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.

Is here is any Error message for the Crash, also is your Flash player and
Java script up2date, does this behaviour reproduced with other sites or just
Ebay?.

Open a Notepad, customize or minimize to the taskbar as you will need it
later for this step to copy the error message on it.
Open a run command and type in:
eventvwr.msc click [OK] you will get the Event viewer control Panel.
click on each of these:
Application
System
Security
Look in the right Pane/window for error message with red (X) or Yellow
exclamation mark /!\ , double click each one to get more info about the
causer.
On the Event error properties message you will see:
Up Arrow
Down arrow
Two pages
Click on the two pages to copy the error message then bring up the Notepad
you opened earlier and right click on the first line and select Paste from
the list, this will paste the error message on a Notepad.
Please don't duplicate the error message one of each kind will be sufficient.

Please we need just the error messages with Red (X) and don't repeat the
error, just one of each kind and post them back in your next post.
I will assume the system is clean and running an up2date Anti-Virus
application, so try to capture the Process that causing this crash, either by
downloading the Process explorer from Ms site or by Task manager.

Other forums also mebntion KB942615 as the problem.

Manually uninstall by going to C:\windows\$NtUninstallKB942615$\spunist\ and
double-clicking spunist.exe.

If you can not see file like C:\windows\$NtUninstallKB942615$, change
windows explorer to view system and hidden files via tools, folder options,
view, show hidden files and folders, and uncheck hide protected operating
system files.

After it is uninstalled you will be required to reboot.

I spoke to MS and they said you have to uninstall your AV software before
installing this patch if you're having a problem. I did not want to do that.
On my laptop (XP Media Center) I turned off McAfee AV and firewall and the
patch installed with no problem.

I am a glutton for punishment and tried installing KB942615 on my desktop
(XP home) 3
times; each on a different day. The last time I turned off McAfee first,
but that did not solve the problem. I had to go to control panel /
add-remove programs

I went to Control Panel/Add and Remove and uninstalled
the update you mentioned: KB942615, even though MS gave dire warnings.
Now, every time I boot up MS keeps on wanting to reinstall it.
However - now that it's uninstalled IE doesn't seem to be crashing -
at least, not so far.

I'm not computer savvy enough to tackle Bob Harris' suggestions. Maybe
MS should offer a fix?

Thanks for all the replies, have you all being reading the various other
posts on here about this same problem.
I think Limey is right, it's about time MS took some responsibility for its
updates. In any other industry installing faulty components during routine
maintenance and then expecting your customers to put it right themselves
would not be tolerated.
Ok rant over will uninstall patch and let you know.

I uninstalled it the other day by going to Add/Remove programs but MS
keeps advising me it's ready to download the blankety-blank thing again.
I think I'll reinstall and see if I can do Bob Harris' fix. Darned MS.

Hi Limey, I understand your frustration but this is for ms to fix, would you
get the spanners out if you main dealer screwed up your car service?
I'll be waiting for ms to release a correctly thought through patch, if we
all keep accepting shody workmanship they will never up their game.
