Attach a USB drive.

Windows Explorer: Find the icon for the drive in Windows Explorer. Right
click and select Properties. Go to the page tabbed "Hardware." Select the
USB drive again and select Properties. On the screen that appears, go to
the Policies tab. Move mark from "optimize for quick removal" to "optimize
for performance." There is also a link within that option for placing the
Safely Remove Hardware icon in the taskbar's notification area. OK you're
way out of the screens.

Device Manager: Locate the USB drive in Device Manager. Double click to
bring up the properties sheets. On the Policies page, move dot to "optimize
performance" and use the link to place the Safely Remove Hardware icon in
the notification area.
