Could the CDR with the artwork/pictures printed (using Silk Screen Printing)
technology) potentially cause damage of CDROM or damage of the laser?
Printing of a picture potentially causes asymmetry of a disk and it can
affect a condition of a CDROM device?

not likely.

AS long as the disk is balanced and the inks are thin. The
laser is on the bottom so it won't be effected by printing
on the top.

Once, I marked a (music)cd-r with a sharpie without a paper label on the cd
and it came through the other side. the cd was ruined and the music wouldn't
play.

Interesting, as the ONLY thing we use are "Sharpies"(tm) to write
directly on the cd label area. We have done this for years, on literally
hundreds of CD's without a single problem.

Perhaps there is an explaination! We do it as a matter of course with no
issues or disc problems, you did it once and and the disc was
unreadable. Ergo, problem was caused by other than "Sharpie"(tm) ink
bleeding thru the aluminum. Perhaps you used a solvent based marker?
