More "Delayed Write Failed" errors w/ IEEE 1394 Maxtor HD

Greetings,

We've got two Maxtor external IEEE 1394/Firewire had
drives hooked up to our XP Pro system. Both drives are
set to "Optimize for Quick Removal" in the hardware
preferences.

On one (and only one) drive, we get "Windows Delayed
Write Failed" errors occasionally. I checked the Windows
KB article on this which suggests for ATA drives that an
80 pin cable is needed (N/A in this case) and that UDMA
should be turned off (not applicable for external
drives?).

Am thinking of backing up the drive and reformatting it,
though I feel apprehensive that this will not solve the
issue.

Any more suggestions?

My hardware:
VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller -- MS Driver
Dated 7/1/2002, Ver 5.1.2535.0
Two Maxtor 1394 storage IEEE 1394 SBP2 Devices

The IEEE controller card is on its own IRQ, 18, and the
PC is configured as an ACPI Uniprocessor PC.
