Does this happen to anyone else and is there a fix? If I
leave my computer on for any length of time I have to
restart it because my internet connect stops working (I
am using roadrunner) I know it is not RR and it has only
happened since I got XP? Any suggestions?

Use RoadRunner's One-Click Fix...it worked wonders with my RR account!

On Sun, 31 Mar 2002 20:36:19 -0600, during a somber church service,
"Carey" <cnfr...@midsouth.rr.com> suddenly stood up, dropped trou'
while letting out a huge noisy noxious cloud and then proudly

last I heard RR wasn't compatible with XP. Has this changed? We
don't have RR yet, but our neighborhood is supposed to be hooked up
next month (just finished upgrading the cable lines here). I too have
XP installed and was concerned that it might be an issue.

Q. "last I heard RR wasn't compatible with XP. Has this changed?"

A. RR works fine with XP. All RR does is provide a broadband network connection. There
is no need to install any RR software. I've been using RR for two years now and it has
been quite reliable.

The first place you should have contacted was RR, you pay for their
service and they provide free help. They also provide a free telephone
number. If Carey's advise doesn't work call them.

Are you running any firewall software? If so that would be the most likely
prob. The firewall probably auto locks and then xp can't reach the dhcp
server to renew the lease. If you have a firewall software check the
settings for some kind of auto lock feature.

Roadrunner is most certainly compatible with XP! I've have RR for over
a year and XP since early November, they work together fine. It's RR
Medic that isn't compatible with XP yet. RRMedic is a little settings
and diagnostics tool that runs on startup. I kinda miss it but not
enough to go back to using 98SE! I didn't make good sense out of XP
Pros built in firewall. Seemed TOO simplistic actually. I bought Zone
Alarm Pro, a LinkSys BEFSR41 Router/4 port switch combo, and have no
trouble at all out of any of this. I also Friday morning upgraded from
a 440BX mobo to an Intel D850GB mobo, an i850 chipset with an onboard
Intel LAN. The Intel LAN is better even than my LinkSys LNE100 TX 5.1
card.
I'm quite happy with XP Pro and Roadrunner, thank you very much! Heh
heh!

For what it's worth Betty, yes! You're not the first to mention this.
In my own case, using a cable connection to ISP Adelphia, after not browsing for a while, the browser seems to lose the concept of
its task in life! In my case, I'll still be able to access newsgroups, however this stuff downloads much faster than I can keep up,
so I can not attest to being on or off-line at the time! BTW, it's the XP newsgroup load that I attribute the problem to! For
otherwise, I'd be browsing;-0)
A reboot ALWAYS recovers the IE connection immediately.
I'm using a very new 2gHz system which makes reboots rather painless, so hopefully there will be a patch before I begin to bog!
