I don't know how I did this (assuming it was me!) but my drive c default
icon has gone! It has been replaced by the "unknown file type" default icon.
My other drive icons are OK, including my network drives. Can any clever
person out there tell me how to recover/change drive icons please?
Thanks in advance. - R
From My Computer window, right-click C:\ drive and choose Open. Look for the
file named Autorun.inf and delete it. Restart Windows. If that does not
help, open Registry Editor, backup and delete this key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\C]

Thanks for the reply. There is no autorun.inf in C:\ and there is no such
entry in the registry. Anything else I should do please?
Regards

Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Folder Options. On
the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and
folders. Again look for autorun.inf file. If found, delete it and reboot.
Check this registry key as well. If found, backup and delete this key:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\explorer.exe\Drives\C]
Restart Windows. If none of the above solves the problem, repair the icons
using Tweak UI. TweakUI v2.10 for Windows XP SP1/XP MCE/2003 [147 KB] is
available for download from:
If Tweak UI corrupts the icons (in case), try the fix at Line #4. "Repairs
the Icon View" @ http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Sorted, very much appreciated. I know it's only aesthetic, but it's
irritating! Deleting the key below did it and when I looked there I suddenly
remembered what I had done that probably caused the problem. For anyone else
interested, I installed Axialis Icon Library, didn't like it much and then
uninstalled it. It must have left an icon high and dry!
Thanks again
