I rebooted XP Home and when I select a user I get the
desktop image but no icons or taskbar at all

Only way I can get acces to anything is CRTL-ALT-DEL

Tried rebooting, logging off and no luck

Any ideas???

if you do not have a "windows button" on your keyboard.
Try to press CTRL+ESC button to open the taskbar.

Hi...
Ctrl - Alt - Del - Applications (tab) - New Task (button) -
(type) Control Panel...OK - User Accounts - Create a new account -
name it (not the same name as your old account) - (check) Computer
Administrator - Create Account.
Back at User Accounts - click on the account you just created
give it a password - etc.
Ctrl - Alt - Del - Shut Down - Restart...
log on with the Administrator account you just created...
start rebuilding.
Every once in awhile, reboot to your old account and you
might find that all is as it should be.
If I might ask...what events took place just before you rebooted
to a blank Desktop?

When you boot choose the other user option.  A new user gets a
blank slate.  You want to choose the User option that already has
the desktop icons, task bar, etc..
