It's only a cosmetic issue but a sprinkling of the icons in the Start
Menu (at various levels) are the 'standard yellow folder', instead of
the proper one. I could change every one individually but that's
tedious. Is there some way to fix the lot in one go please?

Hi Terry,

Did you install a third-party theme lately, and removed it? Can you post a screenshot or your Start menu?

No, I never mess with Themes at all.

Sure, here's an example of part of the Start Menu structure:

Open the Accessories folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

Using Notepad, create a file named desktop.ini with the following contents:

-------------------------------------------------------------------
[LocalizedFileNames]
Windows Explorer.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-22067
Command Prompt.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-22022
Notepad.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-22051
Synchronize.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-22062
Tour Windows XP.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\tourstart.exe,-1
Program Compatibility Wizard.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\compatUI.dll,-115
Address Book.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-22017
[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21761
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Type in Start, Run:

cmd /k attrib +s +h "%allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\desktop.ini"

I'd think your real concern would be what icon is showing on the Start Menu
itself, not what shows up in the Document and Settings subfolders. In either
case, the folder icons can be easily changed by simply right-clicking on them
then select Properties > Customize tab, Change Icon button.

FWIW, my icons in the D & S subfolders display the same as yours, but they are
uniform on the Programs Start Menu itself.
