XP Pro, SP2, Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop.

Trying to start Windows Firewall. Get the message to start Windows
Firewall/Internet Connection Sharting (ICS) service. It fails saying it
cannot start.

C:\net start sharedaccess says "System error 5 has occurred. Access is
denied."

I've tried to find info for a fix but not having much luck. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Hi Lynda,
Open a run command and type:
services.msc click [OK] .
On the services window try to be sure the security Center is Started
Autmatically and security accounts manager also started the same with Windows
Firewall?internet Connection sharing (ICS) is started automatically.
If still that didn't bring up the firewall interface then open a Run Command
again and copy and paste this in the input text box:
rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection Ndi-Steelhead 132
%windir%\inf\netrass.inf

Restart Windows, and then run this command (from Command Prompt):
NETSH FIREWALL RESET

HTH.
Let us know.

hi! I am experiencing also the same., But most of the time I encounter
that, I just simply restart the computer and try the same again,.
Luckily the service starts by its self.Or at one time, I can now start
the service manually. Another question now is, is it a virus that shuts
down the service? help anyone?
