Patrick,

Infrequently used system tray icons will be hidden. Click on the round
button with the < displayed on it and all will be revealed.

I have the same problem, only since I installed a
Microsoft Update yesterday. Sure is annoying.

I am on here looking for answers too. I got my sound
icon back (I have no idea how - I rebooted a couple
times...), but others that are both in use, and marked
as "always show," are missing, as is the little round
arrow button that should allow me to see the inactive
icons.

What the heck?

if it's not due to Hide Inactive and your sure the Icons are Enabled to
display from their respective app's

It's a known problem, with no fix as yet 12/20/01, here's a couple
workarounds

go start > log off > log off
then log back on
or
R-click the taskbar & select Task Manager
under Processes tab select Explorer.exe & End Task
under Applications tab select New Task
type in explorer and click ok

these must be repeated after each cold/warmboot
