I have searched a number of store websites and they all have their telephone
numbers missing on their web page.

They say 'Telephone' then there is a blank with no number there. So this is
something that is happening to all different sites on my PC. Sometimes the
telephone numbers flash up for about two seconds, before then disappearing.

Is this a virus? Does anyone know its name please? I have Zone Alarm, AVG
anti virus running as well as the XP firewall.

Thanks for any advice.

Hello,

Any links to websites having that problem so that we can take a look too?

I'd guess they retroactively REMOVED the actual numbers...

I have tried quite a few sites even my doctors surgery. The telephone
number shows up for a couple of seconds and then disappears.

Please provide the exact URL to one or two of these pages with
disappearing telephone numbers (as asked yesterday).

Also, try something other than Internet Explorer.

Thanks to all.

My browser is Internet Explorer 7 and mail browser is Outlook Express 6.

Some examples below of the sites where the telephone numbers disappear
(usually within 10 seconds or so).

saynoto0870.com

http://www.saynoto0870.com/companysearch.php

store locator for sainsburys

http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shoppingandservices/storelocator/searchresults.htm?query=nw9+5ra

store locator for Asda

http://www.asda.co.uk/corp/storelocator_frameset/storelocator_frameset.htm

OE is a mail client, not a mail browser...

That is a search page with no telephone numbers. Need to enter
additional info?

Numerous numbers show there that do not disappear. Ex:
Tel: 020 8201 3078
Tel: 020 8905 6066
Fax: 020 8952 0472
Tel: 020 8446 2655

I visited this Sainsbury page with IE6, Firefox, and Opera, and no
numbers disappeared.

Can't find any telephone numbers until you:
"Please enter town or postcode before you search"
and I don't know your town or postcode.

Once again, it is time for you to try another browser. None of these
installations will harm your computer, nor interfere with your later use
of Internet Exploder. I'd recommend Firefox to start.

Hello,

The numbers do not disappear on my end.

Try running it with add-ons disabled. Start Internet Explorer as normal,
Tools, Manage Add-ons, Enable or Disable Add-ons.

Disable all the add-ons and enable them one by one till the problem appears
and you get the culprit.

Where? In the Google Search box?

Entering 'London' in your last link produced places with phone numbers
that do not disappear.

Do you have the Google Toolbar installed? It produces sometimes
unpredictable results from what I've read elsewhere. However, removing
tel numbers is not something logical.

Here is a newspaper page with U.S. telephone numbers, at the bottom at
"IMPORTANT PHONE NUMBERS:". Do they disappear as well?

Seriously, try a better browser.

Click and swipe the mouse pointer across the phone numbers. Do they
appear then? If so, the font color is changing to the same as the
background.

yep they disappear.

highlighting the number as suggested by a contributor does not reveal its
existance.

going through the add ons is my next course of action, as suggested. all
nine of them.... sigh

would it be worth while going back to some of my previous restore points,
i'm wondering ??

View the source of the page(s), and verify they are present.

..and be sure to check for options in whichever one of your
addons/toolbars is causing it.

No. It has to be a browser addon.

Someone suggested checking with another browser on that machine. Have
you done so, yet? That will help you determine if it's the browser or
something else. Download Firefox and see what happens. It won't bite
you even if you *are* stuck on the MS tit.

Yep, I did, several times. Even explained the "won't bite you" part.

please let me know if you found a solution.

i believe it may have to do with a skype add-on that makes phone nos
active, but i'm not sure how to get rid of it.

Contact Skype tech support for help with their product. This is a known
issue.

It is normal and good. It also affect your own PC only because you got Skype active on your monitor.
Close Skype so it's not appear in monitor BUT still ready for uses and hiding in Task Bar. It is GOOD
because Skype can distinguish what country the telephone numbers are and put a country flag, uses Skype
to call -- very cheap.

No need to get rid BUT if you wish -- just uninstall Skype.

It's strange, I'm seeing 1st site you pointed and it's working
properly. Maybe they had temporary problems? But It's good you mentioned
that site, as I found it very useful. Especially article about '0800
numbers' (http://www.smart-numbers.net/) that are toll free numbers. I
didn't know they are so popular, I mean so much popular.

Your problem is the Skype add-on (Mastermind) to Internet Explorer. Go
to "Tools" on IE and then to "Manage Add-Ons". Click on "Enable/Disable
Add-Ons". Disable Skype Add-On (Mastermind) and your problem is solved.
If not, disable other add-ons till your problem is solved. You will soon
have the sollution to your problem. Best of luck.
