I have Windows XP Professional. Recently, after adding some
new programs, I get the following error message when
booting up:
Explorer.Exe This application has failed to start because
UxTheme.dll was not found. Re-installing the application
may fix this problem.

None of my shortcuts appear nor the start button. What to do?

Norton Windows checker tells me:
Missing Program file:
C:\Windows|PCHealth\Help Ctr\Binaries\HELPCTR.exe
cannot access a necessary file uxtheme.dll

Hi Eric,

Are you using Style XP or similar? If so, start your troubleshooting from
there and good luck!

Kelly,

I am so ignorant, I do not know what Style XP is?

Hi Eric,

You aren't ignorant, is just that many uxtheme.dll posts are due to Style
XP. You stated that you added some new programs, but did not include the
names, and I went from there, sorry.

Try this: Go to Start/Run/CMD and type in: SFC /Scannow

and/or:

Go to Start/Run/Msconfig/Extract and a copy of uxtheme.dll from your install
CD and place it in %windir%\System32 folder.

Good luck!
