The GA download is quick (FL link was really slow).
Note this is only a collection of .exe updates zipped together. There is no
general installer from MS yet (there is one over at www.thehotfix.net
though.)
I would recommend installing this for *testing purposes only*.
Many of these fixes are NOT available from Windows update but, by that same
token, many have not been fully tested yet.

And I recommend that you be contacted for all support questions, since
you were the one that brought it to the groups attention.

Sure!! (can I send Microsoft my bill?) LOL.

Hey, I'm just trying to be informative to all those techies out there. I'm
probably going to be trying it out on my laptop some time soon. I'll post my
results.

Go ahead, but don't think you're installed XP SP3.

You would be well advised to stay clear of this FAKE SP3 package.
It is NOT suitable for testing as it is NOT SP3.

If is just a collection of hotfixes and other updates we have released. It
will not update your Windows XP system to SP3
It also contains a number of private " hotfixes that are usually only issued
to users with a specific identifiable problem. The hotfixes are not as
rigorously tested at public released ones this is why we ask you to call PSS
to get them so we can track you and provide further assistance such as new
versions of the fixes etc as they become available. Just installing all the
"privates" on your PC may make you machine LESS stable and will also put you
out of support from Microsoft or an OEM as you are installing incorrectly
issued private hotfixes.

Frankly this "package" should be avoid and you should continue to use
Windows Update and the download site to get the most up-to-date and
correctly issued Microsoft fixes and patches.

Anyone who installs this thinking they are getting SP3 (even as a preview)
is being grossly mislead and is posing a significant potentially non
recoverable risk to their PC and data.

Thanx for posting this Mike.

It could cause disastrous and/or deleterious effects and who knows if malware has also been
packaged within.

Updates for the OS should *ONLY* be obtained directly from Microsoft.

There are still too many people who believe that registering a
product with Microsoft would mean automatically receiving patches
and updates sent as e-mail attachments.

Sorry guys, didn't know this post would be seen as such a problem...
I probably shouldn't have used the "Service Pack" buzz word.

LOL! No, what you should have done is stopped before posting. Most of
the people here are just average users that have no business installing
some piece of sh*t fake.

Be my guest and install it on your own computer.

I don't understand...
...you are calling a group of updates created "BY MICROSOFT", fake?

http://www.thehotfix.net/sp3.html

All of the updates in the package I linked to in my first post, are
Microsoft updates.

*Notice I did NOT say Microsoft updates released to the general public.*

True, some are only "hotfix's" that have not been fully tested. But to say
that these files are fake and/or were not created by Microsoft would be
wrong as well. As I said before maybe I should not have used the words
"Service Pack" and I am sorry for any confusion caused to those less
technical than yourself.

As with ANY piece of software (Microsoft or not; whether it has been
released or not), you always - *INSTALL AT YOUR OWN RISK*

I'll post it again...
"Updates for the OS should ONLY be obtained directly from Microsoft."

If some patches are NOT for the public there is a reason such as possibility of OS
corruption or conflict By packaging them publicly there is a greater propensity for end
user problems.

There is also the possibility that a Trojan or other malware has been inserted into the
software.

No it can NOT be trusted and should not be used. One who understands INFOSEC and COMSEC
should not even advice others about it.

It was a mistake to post this information and you need to realize this.

Obviously.

I am calling the entire package a fake, no matter where some of its part
came from.

LOL! And Michael Jackson never had plastic surgery! Just because
somebody claims something doesn't make it true.

Why? Does that make somebody else's assertion to be the truth?

You are the only one using the SP moniker. Both your links also claim
to be SP3. They don't have SP3.

> As with ANY piece of software (Microsoft or not; whether it has been

It is a fake since it is not a MS-prepaired compilation of patches. If
I build a car from parts and I sell it or even give it away as a
Mercedes, is it a really a Mercedes? No, it is a fake.

This so-called SP3 preview from
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Windows_XP_Service_Pack_3_Preview_d4754.html
which really is the first link you gave, is a fake.
