Hi,

I have two systems (out of ~ 50) on my (campus) Active Directory
domain which stopped updating the user's profiles when logging
off. This started in mid-march.

If the user logs on/off a different system the profile is updated
- so the problem seems to be with the actual system itself - and
the the user's account.

These are Dell Dimension 4500 w/ WinXP pro.

There are no errors reported during logout.
I've tried creating a new user - still no profile updating.
I've deleted all local user profiles - no change.
All TCP settings are correct. Also, I can ping the profile store
system and the AD controllers from the problem systems.

A search on Google didn't have any additional answers.

I'm stumped! HELP

Thanks,

RH

I'm getting exactly the same problem but one machine and with only one
user. I even gave that user a new roaming profile but to no effect. On
all the other machines her profile updates perfectly but on this
machine it doesn't work.

I also tried reinstalling XP on the offending machine and starting off
with a new profile with the same effect. The machine has the same
software installed as all the other machines and the same patches.

I'm totally stumped too.

I think I have found the cause on my system. It seems to be the NVidia
display drivers. The more recent drivers seem to stop the profile from
updating. I am going to try an older driver.

If you updated this via Windows Update, you've learned that updating drivers
that way is Bad News. I never do it. :-(

No this was downloaded straight from NVidia onto a completely clean
machine (I too NEVER use drivers from Windows Update from bitter
experience). Their supposed WHQL 56.72 drivers. As soon as the driver
is installed, roaming profiles fail to update on logoff. I don't know
who certified them but they didn't do a very good job.

Putting an older NVidia driver on (40.72) works a treat. The machine
in question now updates roaming profiles perfectly.

Thanks NVidia for causing me and my user several days of hell trying
to figure this out.

Holy Shit!! batman, that did fix the problem!!!

And to think, I've been working w/ a Microsoft Premium support guy
for a couple months who didn't have a clue as to what was causing
this - his latest suggestion was to wipe and reinstall.

Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You to all
of you!!!
