In Win XP Pro, IE 6, when I go to Tools, Internet Options, then I go to the
Homepage Address (which is highlighted) and I type "h" I get a whole lot of
home page wannabes in a drop list. I would like to get rid of this list to
keep nosy people from checking out where I have been. I clear the History
and that gets rid of a bunch...but they come back, I delete Temporary
Internet Files...to no effect. Tried MRU Blaster nothing. Anybody have any
ideas?
Thanks Len

I cleared my "History" and also said "Delete Files" with "Delete all offline
content" checked and it worked for me. These options are in Tools -->
Options --> General Tab in IE.

No they're not. They are in 'Internet Options' not IE.

Sounds like spyware or a home page hijacker.

Run these tools weekly

Click on tools options general tab per your post. The history button is not
there. It is in internet options.,

They are talking about accessing internet options thru IE. Internet options
in IE's options.
Internet options can be accessed thru control panel or thru Internet
Explorer.
In internet explorer its -- tools, internet options, general tab.
In control panel its -- control panel, internet options, general tab.

The Homepage has not been changed, its just the drop log that I just don't
like having there for all to see.
I ran Spy Sweeper, all it found was cookies which I deleted. Here's a
hijacker log.

You can do the same thing with Spybot S&D on the Immunize window. Of
course, Spywareblaster is still a valuable program.

Hi Len - The following refers to the main Address window dropdown list.
However, this same stored list is also used for the Homepage dropdown, IIRC.
Consequently, you'll also be removing this for the main list as well. You
may rather want to use the Selective Delete, below. Note - It's VERY
important that ALL instances of IE and OE be closed for the removals to
'stick':

To delete ALL Addresses in the Drop Down list, go here and download and
install Mike Burgess' DelTypedURL.inf at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm See below for Selective Delete.

You can also get DelSearchMRU.inf at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelSearchMRU.inf

Note: this does not remove entries entered via AutoComplete. To remove
hidden AutoComplete entries in History:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm#AutoComplete

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure that ALL instances of IE6 are CLOSED before you do
the install of this(these) .inf files.

A nice alternative just for selective or all Address (not Search) history
maintenance is EditURLs, here: http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/ Here also,
you must close ALL instances of IE6 for the deletions to "take".
