Slow computer

[cajun_mike]

I run XP, have a dual core processor and 2 GB of RAM. After my spyware runs
in the middle of the night, it takes a real long time to get any response
from the computer (15 seconds or so). Most commonly it would be OE or
Internet Explorer but any local program is also slow.

After the first program of the day the computer just runs fast and normally.
It's that first program. What could the spyware program be doing that would
cause such a long delay and how can I 'fix' it?

You may want to try another spyware program and I have had great luck with
this one in cleaning badly infected PCs:

I also suggest you run a full scan with an up to date AV program.

My anti spyware/antivirus is Webroot, otherwise well thought of and 15
seconds isn't a terribly long time in the grander scheme of things. It just
irks me to have to wait that long. Thanks for your suggestion of the on
Cnet. I don't really know anything about them but they seem to keep

With 2 gigs of RAM, you should be irked. Something is wrong.

1.Clear the (IE) temporary Internet files and the history cache.
Click 'Start' and then click 'Run'... then type (or copy/paste)
"inetcpl.cpl" (w/out quotation marks) into the box, then click the 'OK'
button.
In Internet Properties panel 'General' tab, under 'Browsing history', click
'Delete...'button, in 'Delete Browsing History' panel, click the 'Delete
all...' button then place a checkmark into the box beside 'Also delete
files and settings stored by add-ons', Click 'Yes' and exit the Internet
Properties panel by clicking the 'OK' button.

2.Clean HDD
Click 'Start' and then click 'Run...' then type (or copy/paste) "cleanmgr"
(w/out quotation marks into the box, then click the 'OK' button. Select
your drive (presumably WinXP (C:) and click OK.

3.Download/execute:

Both free versions of MBAM and SAS are on-demand scanners and offer no
'real-time' protection. Keep them installed and use them as
'second-opinion' scanner which is purposely (by design) recommended by
their respective authors.
