We are all used to dealing with professional gaming companies like Blizzard and EA. These corporations are large bureaucracies which exhibit a certain level of professionalism in their travels.
Many games out there have multiplayer functionality. They usually use their own software to do this and it doesn't contain any extra overhead or third party software. Supreme Commander, a game that's keeping RTS gamers busy until the release of Starcraft 2, is a game that explicitly requires GPGNet for online functionality.
GPGNet has a PHPBB forum, a cafepress t-shirt shop, and about 100 fans dedicated to stomping out anyone who dare say anything bad about the company.
No matter how loyal, it's interesting to point out how they're not shy to admit that GPGNet is the thing that gets in the way of fun in the game.
GPGNet also has a chat room which works similar to IRC. It's filled with, you guessed it, smug 20 somethings who get their power trips behind the computer. People arguing over mispellings, aside from the fact that a 5 minute sweep through the forums will yield you a thousand typos. Why are people in this thing forced into a chat. I don't want to hear these people. I want to game.
The idea of forcing people into a chatroom is old web 1.0 shit. Everyone is automatically in, they have to "Op-out" or whatever themselves.
But one thing that makes this place special isn't just the lack of ingenuity or creativity. It's not even the fact that the software doesn't work for over half the people. It's the idea people who actually work for the company are assholes who are egotistically active in the community.
I didn't pay $50.00 to deal with some egotistical dickhead for a failing company with a skull for a signature who doesn't even have the balls or professionalism to use his real name. Then theirs the trivial face that, well, you know, I'm keeping him fed. And then he goes off and acts like an obnoxious asshole.
I paid $50.00 to be able to play how I want, and say what I want, without some e-power hungry tard named "Corecommander" or "Sonofshagrat" kicking you from some IRC channel. This is why I hate the internet nowadays. Even people at companies are anonymous cowards. These people are actual employees. LOL.
I have a question for you to ponder. Why not drop the unnecessary middle man in the next game? Remove that bloated clump of memory leak shit and you got yourself something.
EA and Blizzard take care of their own multiplayer network fine. It's not rocket science. Aspyr needs to learn that if it wants to succeed in the multiplayer gaming era, it will need to trim this parasitic app from it's toolkit.
Reality is, GPGNet is a failed idea and probably won't be around in 5 years. The people who worked for this company will be able to say they worked for a failed corporation which was lucky enough to take part in a game that temporary held people over til Starcraft 2.
Do the right thing. When Starcraft comes out, buy it, and uninstall Supreme Commander from your system. With SupCom2 comes out (it'll be a flop because it's been milked), but hypothetically speaking, be sure to boycott it if it uses parasite-ware like gpgnet.
God bless Blizzard. God bless EA. God bless all large gaming companies that can make working software. GPGNet employees are unprofessional, egotistical, insulting, and fail. GPGNet is Blizzard for the third world. GPGNet is failware. GPGNet is parasite-ware.
You're first world.
Starcraft 2 coming soon. We'll hold out until then.

It's the slave labor mentality, keep em in line, pay them poverty level wages, and fire them if they step outta line. That’s why big companies have great tech support, high turn over means they can treat em like shit and still get top level results. It’s sad.

$50 bucks flat? Damn my customers pay me $150/hr for me to yell at them (IT). I think you're getting a deal if it's just $50/flat to play a game as much as you want and post your messed up opinions, annonymously.

It kindda is, the only reason EA/Blizzard do it so well is because they have the money and the time and the resources. Gas Powered Games, last I checked wasn't running a game where people pay $15/month with upwards of 10mil subscribers. If I had that kindda cash coming in, of course my network would be the shit. GPG is probably of the mindset that if game (works) then quit, else patch and quit.

NEVER! I hate RTSs, but I love anything Chris does, great guy.
Boycott, yeah good luck with that. Why not start an "Online petition" or cross post on Usenet. That's really teaching the hard working guys at GPG a lesson, right? Go back to your brooding Mr. Emo, or whatever they call you kids now a days.
How can a game be considered [Milked] when it’s only been around a year or so? Starcraft’s been going strong for decades now. You don’t think that universe is a little played out? Damn I got the comic books and stuffed Zergling in my office, that to me screams of lactation.

Only to you, buddy. And this is probably why.

Til when what? More suck? Joy, another RTS based on a 10 year old theme with NOTHING new. (Because if they change anything Korea will Nuke all the Blizzard offices)
*God has nothing to do with online gaming, or Blizzard for that matter. *Starcraft sucks. *Everyone in online gaming is full of themselves, get used to it. *Everyone has their own opinions, get used to it. *People who monitor online gaming are not PAID ENOUGH, or in some cases not PAID AT ALL to give a shit what you think, or to hold your hand with some 20 year old “egotistical dickhead” kicks your ass from one side of the planet to another.
So shut up, play your dumb ass game, or go out and get 3 friends and beat them up in a LAN game!
egotistical, Mr. Kettle, I’d like you to meet Mr. Pot... (he’s black)

Ok, 'God'...... good for you...
now, If you are diagnosed with Asperger's and write poetry or poetic prose - we want to hear from you!
We are putting a one of a kind hand-made book of art and poetry for a large art exhibition - I'll tell you the details if you're interested. The idea behind it is that the pages are made of linen and more pages will be added as the book tours, with intention to eventually be on permanent display at UN building.
If anyone Autistic is interested, contact me, Rozagy, Autistic creative movement co-founder either through www.myspace.com/rozagy or on here for the first contact.
