USB Booting nearly there - need a bit more input

Hi

I have a USB flash drive booting and loading up the first part of XPe
then I get BSOD 7B.

From the NG I now need to set usbehci, usbohci, usbhub and usbstor to
load at phase zero.

Can someone tell me how to do that in TD. Thanks.

I then need to set LoadGroup to Boot Bus Extender so USB is loaded
before the file system is loaded.

Again anbody tell me how to do that in TD.

Hi Paul,

Non related to USB boot but related to registry value changes.
For each component in TD you can access "Resources" of that component. There you will find ServiceData which you can configure.

Or set the Start value to "0" for the drivers usbehci, usbhub, usbstor, usbuhci under [HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services] key.
(check out usbport.inf for more info)

Here is a question.
Can you boot from a USB HDD and still have Windows USB support?
I ask this because when I had set up a dos bootable USB drive to boot into
ghost. Ghost would crash when running the USB driver so I could save my
ghost image to an external USB CDROM writer.

Yes you can. In fact you need it to boot from USB in the first place.

The information that I have received is that if your USB silicon (On
the host) is USB 1.1 booting to Windows will not work.

The reason is that during the the boot process, "New" devices are
detected on the USB bus, and the default behavior of USB 1.1 when it
detects a new device is to reset the bus. Resetting the bus removes
your boot device, which results in a stop 7B error.

The good news is that USB 2.0 does not have that restriction, and is
expected to be fully bootable. Microsoft is working on a boot standard
that will allow booting to USB key, but I don't know that status or
codename of the project offhand. It is slated to be in Windows Server
2003 SP1, which is not too far out.
