Problem restarting XP from standby

I have an HP735 Pavillion which is about six years old but works
fine, running Windows XP. This is the first problem I have not been
able to fix by using Registry Booster, or defragging, or doing other
normal maintenance.

I typically put my computer on standby. Recently, about one time
out of three when I want to restart it from standby, it fails to do
so--the screen simply remains blank. I power down, turn the power
back on, and then I get a message that the last effort to restart
failed, and giving me two options:

Restart the system again from its previous location

Delete restoration data and proceed to boot

I usually pick option 2 which works but wastes at least five
minutes. I tried option one this morning and it did restart from
where it was, but something was wrong--CPU usage was stuck on 100%--so
I powered down again.

I have found some discussions of similar problems but not exactly
the same one and would appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

Try asking in a "normal" XP group. This is for XP Embedded, another
creature.
