Hi,

I'm a newbie to WES. We went to out our computer suppliers who recently went
to a Microsoft conference on WES and we're considering together migrating
across from XP Pro to WES.

We understand that you are able to protect the entire volume (C:\) and then
add "holes" into the overlay to allow certain files and folders to be
modified.

My question is:
* If I add an exception on the folder "C:\OurApp" say, does that exception
apply to all files and sub-folders within "C:\OurApp"?
* If it does not, can you dynamically add holes into the overlay without
requiring a reboot?

Our customers need to be able to dynamically create and delete folders, but
only within the "C:\OurApp" root folder.

Regards,
Alain

Yes, using the File Based Write Filter (FBWF)

Thanks. I understand the FBWF is the one I want, but to clarify, if I set
the exception to "C\OurApp" is the hole in the overlay definitely going to
be for that folder, AS WELL AS all files and sub-folders recursively?

Thanks for the quick response!

Regards,
Alain

Yes. That is correct. If you include "C:\OurApp" in the list , all paths that
begin with that prefix will be excluded. For ex. "C:\OurApp\foo" or
"C:\OurApp\foo\bar.txt"
