Components not updating in Target Designer

Custom components that I update in Component Designer often do not update in Target Designer even if I release the component. If I delete the containing registry, then re-import the SLD file, I can get the components updated in TD. That's an absurd way to go about this, however, and defeats the purpose of CD and TD.
Any suggestions?
