Is there another way to hide desktop icons in XP Pro?
Grateful for any help or advice.
Russ
You can use a regedit or 3rd party app to get this done:
1) Iconoid by Sillysot: (Free Download)
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winme/r1064364201
2) Two regedits that will do it from Winguides:
Hide All Items on the Desktop
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/147/
Change Desktop Icon Visability
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/7/

Chad Harris

You are really trying hard in the groups, as I have noticed. However, you
are seemingly, in most cases taking the long way around things. Reason
being, you are not familiar enough with what you are answering (case on
point - Start Menu shortcuts, etc).
Stick to what you know well and post away. :o)

I forgot about the check in start menu properties for favorites 4/23/04--I
should have visited it first. When I realized soon after, I had no way to
delete the post. Hopefully in *most cases*, I'm not taking the *long way
around* including some of the keyboard combos and links for regedits/tweaks
for getting things done.
Thanks,
Chad Harris

The options disappear when Active Desktop is turned off by Group Policy or a tweaking program.

Thanks a lot, and thanks for the heads up with reference to GP/tweakers.
That was sure one that needed cancelling. I'd scrolled those checkboxes a
lot, but not lately enough, and didn't remember favorites was one of the
boxes so I dragged them over. I should have looked.
On your post comparing the features of Tweak UI 1.33, and Tweak UI XP 2.10,
one option to use features no longer in the one for XP is to have them both.
