horizontal shifting in the tree pane in Windows Explorer?

view the folder tree (View > Explorer Bar > Folders) from "helpfully"
shifting horizontally? This happens in other applications that try to
look like Explorer, such as Outlook. I know it's trying to be helpful,
but I wish it wouldn't do it - movement seen out of the corner of my eye
is distracting, and also it shifts the structure so I can't see bits I
want to and have to scroll them back.
I anticipate there won't be any way to stop it, as when I asked a few
months ago if there was any way to stop it "helpfully" opening
(expanding) folders when you hover over them with something you are
about to drop, there were no answers (lots of helpful alternatives and
suggestions, thanks, but no-one knew how to stop it).

The easiest way I know to do that would be to make the left pane wide enough
that the contents all fit within it. That will stop most of the shifting
on you. It takes a little time to get used to the wider setting, but it's
worth it IMO.

It reduces the width for the other pane, though. It's also admitting
defeat somewhat, like expanding any folder before dragging to it to
prevent it suddenly expanding in the middle of your drag.
