I am writing on behalf of a friend, i noticed her computer
was running really slow and checked her tasks they had
never run , she had Windows Xp installed in may of this
year by a tech and she thought he had set it all up . i
tried to run them from the scheduled task page and they
wont run ,i removed then and re added them as a new task
but still no luck . the task is asking for a password any
idea what type of password it is asking for , and is this
related to them being administrators should it all be the
same password ????. if any one has a clue as to what to do
I would really appreciate help . please step by step
instructions. beleive me i sat for 5 hours trying to fix
this. oh and i cannot find her scan disk i done a search
for that ????.

Hi,

A scheduled task can be run without passwords:

For Pro: Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Local Security
Policy/Local Policies/Security options. In the right hand pane (third down).

Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only.
This is enabled by default, disable it.

For Home: Run Scheduled Task without a Password (Line 67)

Scheduled Tasks won't run:

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\S-1-5-18 and delete the files in there.
Scheduled Tasks will recreate the files needed.

Note: This folder is hidden by default. Go to Start/Run and type in:
control folders. View: Show hidden files and folders.

Disk Cleanup: Go to Start/Run and type in: cleanmgr

In addition to Kelly's excellent solution. Scandisk does not exist in XP, it's now called Chkdsk. The following article gives a good over view of chkdsk.
