As part of this week's batch of updates, I got Security Update for Windows XP (KB2676562) and it SEEMED to install properly, in that it asked me to restart my computer (running XP) after apparently normally downloading and installing, which I did.

latest updates caused lost wireless connection

Today I installed the Patch Tuesday updates on my Windows XP netbook--and on restarting I had no wireless network connection. I restarted again just to make sure, and it was still gone. I did a System Restore to before the installation, and the connection is back.

I know better than to use my password or give out my credit card number on an unsecured network, but what about doing Windows Updates on one? Is it unsafe?

Windows Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2491683) error 8024200D

I have Windows 7 x64 on my desktop computer and every time that I try to do the Windows update for the KB2491683 security update, it keeps giving me the error code 8024200D when it is halfway done installing. I have tried the solutions microsoft provides on their tech help webpage (doing the cmd prompt scannow, doing the msconfig disabling all non-microsoft programs thing and trying the update again), but nothing is working. This particular security update has failed to instal since 4/16/11. Any help would be greatly appreciated.... more »

I'm new to Win 7 (2 weeks). Initially there were dozens of updates to the OS and to MS applications that were installed on the PC. It stopped after a few days.
