Have you tried the manual download?
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=BC28ED7F-C51B-49CD-B505-95B91B453284&displaylang=en
or

You didn't tell me what OS you're using.

As a matter of interest, do you have Zone Alarm installed?

TaurArian,

Thanks for the response. I am running XP SP2. I don't think I've ever
installed Zone Alarm and it is not in the list of installed programs. I do
have Spybot S&D. I just tried the manual download for XP. It failed but I
have the log file if that helps. Should I post it here or should I send it
to you directly.

Thanks for your support.

Hi pwcky, please post the relevant part of the windowupdate.log file here so
everyone can read the same. If I don't know the answer, someone else may.

Is an earlier version of Windows Desktop Search still installed?

I have also has a similar problem with this update too on Vista OS
I have installed it using Windows Update and the standalone installer and on
both events i get installation failed.
In the error details section i get, Code 80070002 where i have to stop the
Windows update service, delete update files and restart service and reinstall
the update.
This has done nothing.
I have also conducted all of the above procedures while in safe mode but it
doesn't make a difference

Thanks

I am having the same exact problem.

I'm running Windows XP Professional (x64 edition).

The installation log is of absolutely no help whatsoever. It says...

-------------
Installation Failure

Error Code: 0x05

The install still failed.

Ok, actually, after a more careful review of the install log there were a LOT
of failures earlier on in the log and they were all failures to access
various registry keys.... Sounds like a permissions thing....maybe?
