I used Microsoft update today and it told me (for the thousandth time) that I
needed an update to the updating software. I did that and then I got the
following message, "Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer
registered or installed on your computer." I clicked to go ahead and install
and register the files and it went through that process. But then got this
message, "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page
you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the
problem." The options below were of no help so I went to the Microsoft
Update email support option and tried to send an enquiry. After filling in
all the information it leads me to a page that is blank except for
Microsoft's little activity bar bouncing back and forth at the top and the
rest of the page is blank. It hangs there forever.

I suspect that I have some JavaScript problem but can't tell for sure.

Has anyone else had this problem when using Microsoft Update recently?

I'm running Windows XP Media Edition at SP3.

Some have reported that simply re-registering the MSXML3.DLL seems to fix
the problem.
1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type: regsvr32 MSXML3.DLL
Press okay

If that hasn't helped you may need to re-registered some more files:

1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type (pressing okay after each one) :-

net stop wuauserv

Repeat for the following:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

net start wuauserv
