Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport
For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related
to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB123456).
If your problem relates to a Cumulative Security Update for IE, call the
above number and ask to be transferred to the Consumer IE7 queue (which is
47830).
For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx
For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.

These are the failed update details:

I've tried installing this update twice, and each time it spends a long time
shutting down and installing updates, and a long time configuring settings
when starting up again taking approximately 1- 1 1/2 hours.
Any advice?

My apology for a typo it should be KB937287 patch. This patch corrects
a Windows update problem, and as previously stated does not require a
reboot after installing, therefore KB938371 can be installed straight
after and requires one reboot. Both patches have 32 and 64 bit versions
and are on the same webpage at . 'Download details: Update for Windows
Vista (KB938371)' (http://tinyurl.com/2e9vle)
Again, many thanks.
Tim
Happy to hear the KB937287 & KB938371 standalone sequence worked OK
I think the installing KB937287 had more to do with the success than
disabling all the security measures.
Previously I, like many others, have had problems installing vista
update patches, usually the more important ones, and have tried
installing one at a time but with limited success. The standalones have
had greater success but not 100%. Hopefully future upgrade patches will
work smoother.
Thanks very much! followed your intructions and managed to install both
updates solving my install problem.
Thanks again :D

As an addendum, KB937387 installed automatically after forcing KB938371.
Reviewed update list and 387 never listed until end. Didn't even know 387 was
available. Read other postings and find problems with 387 and 371 seem to be
interrelated but I was never aware. Don't know the significance but just
wanted to mention it for future reference.
Again thanks,

Shadowrushed:
This problem was in early 2008 before Windows Vista Sp1 was available.
Since installing SP1 no updates have failed on my computer. The problem
was caused by cliches in the original OS that Mocrosoft released on a
majority of machines and wasn't due to AVG or other anti-virus as I am
aware.

Thanks for the timely post. Come back in 2 years and let us know if
Service Pack 1 installed properly.
