This is for anyone who's having trouble with WU (BITS/AU):
http://castlecops.com/t106642-How_To_Fix_Windows_Update_BITS_Newly_Edited.html
[I wrote it -- I would have posted the entire set of
instructions here, but I wasn't sure if I could upload
the Zip file with the Registry fixes on this N.G., so
anyone could subsequently download it. However,
the necessary File ready for downloading, along with the
lengthy instructions are all located at the above link.]

If the above link doesn't work, go to:
http://castlecops.com/
Click "Forums" right below the Castlecops logo,
then go to the "General Computer Problems" Forum
(2nd one down), click on it and look for the Topic called:
"How To Fix Windows Update (BITS/AU)".

[As of THIS writing (2/12/06 2:45 AM EST),
it was on the 1st page (on top) and the 'Last Post'
was made on Sat. Feb. 4, 2006 at 6:51 PM]

If you're not a member and want to register for a
free account, go to:
http://castlecops.com/
[Look on the bottom of the Login box on the right side
and click where it says:
"Click here to create a registered account" (and follow the
instructions from there).]

Hope it helps somebody here (it sure seemed like it did at CC)...

What timing! Friday evening I concluded a similar but much shorter
correspondence regarding BITS with Microsoft. My fix was as simple as adding
a missing registry key; no, I have no idea how it disappeared since I don't
delete registry "anything".
BITS also affects XPMCE TV Guide downloads and I'm happy to have my
guide back.

Hi this has been helpfull to me because when I went trough step five:

Step 5: In case you get Error 0x8007043b
==============================

***** BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST *****
{If you don't know how to back up your registry,
I suggest you carefully read this}:
Elder Geek Registry Back-Up Info

1. Click Start and click Run.
2. In the Open box, type REGEDIT, and then click OK.
3. Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SvcHost
(but do not expand the SvcHost key in the left panel).
4. In the right panel, double-click the netsvcs key, which will open a
pop up box, entitled, "Edit Multistring".
5. Under the "Value data:" box will be a list of services.
Add BITS and wuauserv (on separate lines) to the list of services
(if they are not listed already).
6. Click OK
7. Exit the registry
8. Re-boot the system (mandatory or the changes won't go into effect).

it restored the updatepossibility, for me as a Dutchie it was sometimes hard
to understand the english terms but I did it with help of you and
MekongDelta69 on Castlecops.
