I also notice that the keyboard locks in when the "round circle"(mouse
pointer) stops moving. Seems there some hardware conflict with this update. I
have an Asus P5N-E Sli motherboard, Core 2 duo E6600, 8800gts 320mb gpu,
Creative Xfi 64mb.
Had to do system restore after that patch.
I have installed it on my custom built desktop and not had a problem.

Using http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx I reported
this. In reply there were some more detailed questions which I answered and
now I hope some Microsoft folks are sitting on that bug. To give it a
possibly higher priority, do the same.
Some more info from my side:
1) The content of the bluescreen flshing after stucking on
\Windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys, before restart
<cite>
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage
to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives
or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is
properely configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive
corruption, and then restart your computer.
Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0x80603BA0, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
</cite>
Of course I have no viruses, no new hardware in laptop and the disk is ok.
2) Log after "repair you computer" confirms the disk is ok. Most
interesting parts:
Number of repair attempts: 1
Number of root causes = 1
Root cause found:
A patch is preventing the system from starting.
Repair action: System restore
Result: Completed successfully. Error code = 0x0
Time taken = 77034 ms
3) I tried several options of booting ("Safe Mode", "Safe Mode with
networking", "Safe Mode with Command Prompt", "Enable Boot Logging",
"Enable low-resolution video (640x480)", "Debugging Mode", "Disable Driver
Signature Enforcement", "Start Windows Normally") after F8 numerous times.
After about 15 attempts of "Safe Mode" my comp once didn't hang/reboot but
managed to proceed. Windows was running. It finished configuring the
pluggin and other initial actions, I had no idea what to do more so I
restarted. The issue hadn't gone out.

I have the same problem. I have a custom made pc. It has a ASUS SLI
MB. The cycle of freezing is the same. I ran counter strike and the
game would cycle the same way online. MS needs to fix this fast.

Me not. I received reply that I should contact Dell (sic! Dell is not to
blame for this problem) since I have OEM version. I only HOPE that they
recognised this issue as a bug and are solving it. Can someone having a
problem and non-OEM put a request to ensure proper course of action?

I had the same problem on my Dell Inspiron 1520. I have found a solution
(without uninstalling update KB943899). I did three manual updates after I
installed KB943899:
1. Installed the latest Bios-Update from Dell (A04):
--> did not change anything, problem still there
2. Installed the Intel Mobile Chipset Drivers (Dell-Version R153997, A02):
--> did not change anything, problem still there
3. Installed Intel Matrix Storage Manger V7 (Dell Version R154198, A01):
--> Problem solved, no further problems for four hours now
I would be interested if this solves the issue for others as well?

I have the Vaio pcg-8z1m notebook. KB943899 update fails but without big
boot problems. I got the blue screen once and sometimes it takes two boot
sequences to boot. 10 times I have downloaded the update: it installs fine,
but when I reboot, it still has failed to install according to the update
overview.
All the other updates were succesfull, however I had to install half of them
twice after failure at the first attempt.

I updated also my chipset and network drivers. Than restart and installing
the KB943899. It works now. I suppose update of disk driver (R154198) is
crucial. Thanks for help! I consider this issue solved.

I'm not sure that driver updates get undone that way anyway.

WU is not the best newsgroup to try to resolve this in
but FWIW I think you should be able to boot some kind
of command console, fix the problem and then recover your OS.
A related alternative would be booting with options which say
that you only want to use VGA mode. You might even already
have that option available in your boot list. Etc.
Cross-posting to a Vista NG...
Good luck

I contacted MS support and they said they would notify their supervisor of
this problem. In the known issues section below, it states;
"Hard disk drives may not be recognized after update 943899 is applied.
Certain SATA hard disk drives are not recognized after a computer resumes
from sleep or hibernation when v1.0 of update 934899 has been applied. The
drives are sent incorrect data, and the data changes several hard disk
settings. One of these settings is “power up on standby mode." This behavior
keeps the hard disk from spinning, and the system will not start. This hard
disk problem was resolved by v2.0 of update 943899 which was published on
February 11, 2008."
This sounds like what might be happening. How can we get the v2.0 version
of update 943899?
Here's the information for 943899 I found on MS for this update:

Or, as stated, you can install SP1 which includes the V.2.0 of KB943889.
If this were my system I'd install KB943899 by itself *after*
backing up all data that I'd want to preserve and *manually* creating a
system restore point just in case *something* goes amiss.
Then do a manual download of SP1 and save it.
Configure Vista to boot to a clean state and then install SP1:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Then manually download and save SP2. Leave the system in the clean boot
state and install SP2.
Undo the clean boot steps after all the required reboots, and voila,
you're done. <w>

"Security updates should *never* have *non-security content* prechecked"
Unfortunately this was unsuccessful, also Vista SP1 would not install
due to required updates which cannot be not installed.
After another Day of surfing/searching, I read a Post by a
"Ranova", she stated that it is possible to install this KB943899 from
Windows Updates if you 'Shut Down' your PC manually rather than use the
'Restart' button, then turn on the PC.
Having spent so much time and effort to no effect, I had thought
it's another false hope, but eureka, to my astonishment it worked (I
installed this update separately from the others).
It may or may not be the same same scenario for everyone and since
I'm not very technically minded I cannot offer explanation to the
result. I'm estactic that it eventually installed, TYVM Ranova,
who/where ever you may be.
