I already tried emptying the %windir%\SoftwareDistribution Folder (after
stopping the Windows Update Service, of course).
I also installed CheckSUR, which reported no problems. Then I installed SP1,
but the problem still persists.
The relevant lines of WindowsUpdate.log would be:

I cross-checked with my Vista Notebook and found that wsus3setup.inf did not
exist there either, but Microsoft Update worked nonetheless.
Does anyone have an idea of what is going on here? I'm somewhat clueless at
the moment.
When searching for available updates on the Update site, you see the
0x80070002 or
0x80070003 error

I was however able to find this:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general&tid=7f834c42-1140-4409-a946-ed3394a87b5d&cat=&lang=&cr=&sloc=&p=1
which matches my problem perfectly... but the only solution there was to
reinstall Vista.
This thread here also matches, but still no solution:

Any ideas, anyone?

I tried that but to no good:
I still get 80070002 in Windows update (after clicking the "get updates for
more products" button in Windows update). The error in the logfile is

not on my system as much as I can see).
What can be done about that?
Thanks and with best regards,
