I'm running Windows 98 and I am suffering from the same problem as numerous people in this community.
I repeatedly am told I have this critical update to apply, yet the install history indicates that the item has been successfully installed multiple times. I don't know if it's actually installed or not; my help about shows: Version 6.0.2600.0000IC, Update versions:;Q321232;q313829;Q323759;Q328676. Yet when I do a read more on the MSIE 6 SP1 fix it seems to indicate Q326489.
I've checked the WUTemp folder listed in the log below and do NOTsee any files although my folder options are set to view all files. Is this thing installed or not? Is the answer what Mark7 put in a related post....uninstall and reinstall IE6 then install the SP1 patch?

Paula,

DO NOT uninstall IE6. The issues with it can be resolved without
resorting to this.

First, do you have a spyware program installed ? If not, go here to
scan your system for their presence :

Do you have parasites
http://www.aumha.org/a/noads.htm

If spyware is found go here (If none is found on the system skip
this step) :
The Parasite Fight - Quick Fix Protocol

When you are certain the system is clean, boot to Safe Mode and use
the Repair Tool for IE :

You state that this is your IE version. This is not IE6 SP1.
Try this : Create a new folder in My Documents. Name it InstallIE.
Open the Program Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall Information
folder. Move all of the contents of this folder to the folder you
created, InstallIE. Temporarily disable your antivirus program.
Now run the setup for IE6. If it installs you can delete the
InstallIE folder. If not, move the contents of the folder back to
the Program Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall Information folder.

Please post back with your progress.
