While in the Micrsoft Update Home Page I try to find the latest updates but
when the system tries to run a scan to find the latest updates I just get the
following message: "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display
the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you
solve the problem." I am trying to read thru previous problems but have
found nothing in regards to this problem.

Frustrating as I have problems with Windows dowloads on 2 of my personal
computers. One downloads and won't install and now this one doesn't even get
into the download web page.

I have a similar problem...... Since June 3, 2008 my automatic updates are
not working... They have all Failed...... Explorer is now crashing on a
regular basis, and i cannot hardly use it.... I did iexplore.exe -extoff, and
it still crashed.... I know, 2 separate problems, but I wondered if I needed
updates, and now they don't work. Help...

Judging from similar posts here in the past month or so, the behavior may be
due to a Vundo-ZLOB-SDBot infection, all of which is protected by a rootkit.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

How can you say you have the same problem when you're getting a different
error?

I kind of have a similar problem.
When I click to download the available updates I get that "Some of the
updates could not be installed". The updates are being downloaded but not
installed. I haven't been able to update my computer since the past 5
months!! I even can't update my Windows Defender.
Please help....

Thanks PA Bear however none of these steps have help. The problem just
started this week. I have Norton 360 with Firewall as Virus Protection.
Have also run Ad-Aware and detect no malware. I believe the problem started
after the latest automated download. When I select Windows Update it takes
to me this website
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us and then
get the message "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display
the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you
solve the problem Error number: 0x8007000B."

I have tried RUN: cmd and then retypyed the regsvr32 items as found in one
of the solutions on Microsoft web but this did nothing.

Well, I was replying to Ken, not you, Sam, and you didn't include that error
number in your first post.

We still don't know your Windows version.

When I did reply to your post, my reply included...

site on a Windows XP-based computer: "Windows Update has encountered an

Additionally and if it's a Vista machine, see this KB article (ignore the
title): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939399

I finally resolved my issue with help from Microsoft Help Desk. This worked
for me so maybe will resolve your issue.

NOTE: Mark down your DNS settings before doing thelast 2 steps in case you
need to re-input them.

Select START: Select :RUN & type NCPA.CPL press Enter
Right Click on your network connection
Highlight the TCP/IP (Internet Protocol)
Click Properties
Put a check mark agains "obtain an IP address automatically"
and against "Obtain DNS server address automatically"
Select O'K
Retry your downloads. (My machine didn't have a check in the last item
and fixed my problem).

If this doesn't resolve your issue then send an e-mail to Microsoft Web
assistance and they'll send you different things to do...the last one I rec'd
worked.
