Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - November 2009 (KB890830)
I installed these when requested, but one (unidentified) failed to download
correctly. During the install process I received a series of 3 error codes,
for which the help on this website told me to download and run again. I have
attempted this update set 3 times with the same results. Further each time it
locks my system up on reboot and the only solution is to restore to the last
system restore point.
I have now invested more than 3 hours into trying to get these "automatic"
updates installed. Is it time for a new operating system?

Which of the updates are listed in Start | Control Panel | System And
Maintenance (If you are using Classic View, skip this step) | Windows Update
| View available updates (or Select updates to install)?
What were the 3 errors? cf. http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527#tab1
That list is what I checked from the updates window. There are several more
for specific applications that I do not have.
