I just reinstalled WindowsXP. I was able to install SP3 and I think two more
updates. The next go round it downloaded the updates but won't install them.
I have repeated this several times with the same result. The failed updates
do not show up in the history. The only message I get is the one on the
screen after the failed update has run.

Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being
downloaded or installed.

Where else can I look for a clue about what is wrong?

Thanks
Tom

Try this (worked for me, and I had the same symptoms. Props go to Engel on
it. Thanks, Engel!)

Thank you - this is exactly what I needed, too.
