visual studio 2008 is seen as 2005

to
when i attempted my study of c++, i decided to install a trial of visual
studio 2008.
now,a few months later, i tryed to update it to a service pack, but when i
opend microsoft update, it tought i had visual studio 2005!

i never had version 2005 do, but this way i can't update my version, so some
help would be appreciated

There is NO service pack for VS 2008 !

Perhaps you tried to install the SP1 for VS2005 onto VS 2008 ??

There is now. So does anyone know why Visual Studio 2008 sp1 doesn't show up
in my Microsoft Update page? I also have Visual Studio 2005 installed on the
same pc and it does have an entry on Microsoft update.

Perhaps it hasn't been released to Microsoft Update yet?
