I am unable to update my system due the error listed in the subject. The
page displays the following message:
"The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem."
The Automatic Update control panel indicates that the Automatic Updates
service is enabled and set to "Automatic (recommended)". The Services
management tool indicates that the service is "Started".
However the Microsoft Updates page directs me to enable the AU service.
Note: There are no related errors in the event logs.
I've tried the following:
Disable "Microsoft Updates" => "Windows Updates" fails the same way and
indicates that AU should be enabled.
Reinstalling the Windows Update Agent => "WUA is already installed. No
changes made."
Removing the contents of %WINDIR%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
REGSRV => No difference in observable behavior
C:\>windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe /?
This produced the following help information:
/wuforce
/quiet
/norestart
I ran the installer with the /wuforce option and that resolved the issues
detailed below.
My Error:
==>
OS: Windows XP Media Center Edition
Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.090804-1435 : Service Pack 3)
[Error number: 0x8002802B]

I confirm once again that your steps of re-installing Windows Update
Agent works for the above Error very well.
Thank you again.

That is until today with your /wuforce suggestion. That worked like a charm!
Finally my MS Update is happy and working again.
Thank you again for posting this.
Dan, for the benefit of those who will attempt to help you, try giving some
more information, like, OS, & Service Pack#.

I have the same problem. Windows update dont work.
No one here is a mind reader. Try giving more info, like OS and Service
Pack #. Are you sure you and Dan aren't moron brothers?
That is a Microsoft KB article, why it isn't linked into the search in WU I
have no idea.
Basically, go to that KB and download the Windows Update Agent. Save it to
your drive at C:\.
Close all open programs and browser windows.
Open a command prompt (Start --> Run --> CMD) and type the "%programname%
/wuforce" - i.e. windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe /wuforce.
Close the command prompt and re-run windows update. Automatic updates should
now be set to "On" and you should be able to force an update check
immediately.
it works like a charm..
Can you please ouline the exact steps you took to solve the problem using
the /wuforce?
Thank you

Thank you for providing the steps. Your replay helped me resolve the
EXACT error in Windows XP. I have been on a Support Call with
Microsoft, and it was not going anywhere, just a lot of diagnosis
information that I was asked to run and some very basic steps to try.
But your reply was the one that helped.
