I now have three WinXP SP3 computers. On two of them, I've installed
Microsoft Office. The third, a new netbook, doesn't have that series of
programs as yet (I need to buy a burner in order to install them).
Yesterday, after using Windows Update to download and install 47 updates on
the new computer, I configured it to use Microsoft Update rather than
Windows Update in the future. Now Automatic Updates informs me that I need
to install a bunch of high-priority updates--most of them for Microsoft
Office.

Is that normal behavior for Microsoft Update?

Thank you!

Is Word Viewer, Excel Viewer, and/or PowerPoint Viewer and Office
Compatibility Pack (SP1 or SP2) installed?

Yes, according to Add/Remove Programs, the PowerPoint Viewer and the Office
Compatibility Packs are installed. Would they trigger all the Office
updates, even those not claiming to have anything to do with the viewer and
the compatibility pack? (Service Pack 1 for each of the two programs was
installed yesterday. Today I notice that Microsoft Update wants to install
seven more updates, including SP2 for both.)

Thank you!

You mean about the PowerPoint Viewer? In fact, I never did get the needed
security update for it on my other computers, despite all my efforts and
Susan's escalation of the issue. This issue dates back to July... Looks like
I might have everything on the new netbook though.
