1. Downloading manually intializes the patch but fails install.
2. Auto update fails with an error: "WindowsUpdate_800B0100"
"WindowsUpdate_dt000"
This is a serious security issue and needs to be treated more serious. It
has not been fixed in days, I tried checking again for updates. In hopes
Microsoft uploaded a fix to its own patch. We will soon have more
compromised machines on the net. Even if antivirus, firewalls, malware
checkers are running. Because a big back door exit has been left open and
unlocked.
Why do you assume the problem's on Microsoft's end?
Do these machines update via WSUS or Windows Update?
Are these machines running Vista or Vista SP1? See...

The following table lists error messages that you might receive when you try
to install a software update. These errors might be caused by a system
irregularity that the System Update Readiness Tool might be able to resolve.
However, the tool might be unable to fix all instances in which these errors
occur.

In my case it is a machine, sorry I was not clear on that. But all updates
go through fine but not this one. To answer your question: Windows update.
But I have the same error other users on this board have complained. Check
few threads before me. I made an attempt to check all the symptoms and they
are the same. I'm not the only one by chance with same issue. Just most
complain for "xp" and couple for vista. Type in my hotfix number to see.
I have updated to Vista SP1 fine without trouble at all. My system is very
vista capable and this i'm 75% sure is Microsofts bug!
-Thanks
"System resources, such as file data, registry data, and even in-memory
data, can develop inconsistencies during the lifetime of the operating
system. These inconsistencies might be caused by various hardware failures or
might be caused by software issues. In some cases, these inconsistencies can
affect the Windows servicing store, and they can cause software updates not
to work. The System Update Readiness Tool tries to resolve these
inconsistencies."
That might be the only issue but again other users have same. So if it fixes
it I'll post back with a yes. of course also apologize to MS if it is a hot
headed estimate.

Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport
For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related
to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB950759).
LOOK! => If your problem relates to a Cumulative Security Update for IE,
call the above number and ask to be transferred to the Consumer IE7 queue
(which is 47830).
For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx
For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.
