My computer is turned on to automatic updates sometimes it works and most of
the time I have to do this manually. Today was manually. Everything is
checked like it should be any answers to why updates are not automatic all
the time??

I have my updates set to notify me when there is an update. I tried to
downloand them yesterday, 8/8/06, and they would not install. When I tried to
access them via the windows update site...it just kept seaching for
updates...then froze...the I had about 600 tasks in my task manager. I
rebooted my computer, and turned off automatic update, and my comuter is
fine, but if I try to update at the update site at microsoft...same thing
happens. I spent 2 hrs..on the phone with microsoft...clearly there is a
problem they are not yet aware of. This was a first. We went thru all the
steps of re-registering my update, reinstalling it..etc..NO luck. I assume
we'll find out sooner or later. Enough people are having a problem with
updates it appears. If anyone knows how to solve the issue, please post it.
Thanks So much. Betsy

No, Dick, I have not. I was told someone from the "windows Update" team was
going to contact me. I will post whatever remedy they come up with. Please do
same. Thanks so much. Bets

I got 'stuck' on the same KB that everyone is having problems with. Can not
definitively say so, but it looks like that the
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\DataStore.edb file is becoming
corrupted by something.

Once I deleted the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and re-registered
the support DLLS:

regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\wuauserv.dll
regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\wucltui.dll
regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\wups.dll
regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\wups2.dll
regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\wuweb.dll
regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\muweb.dll

and cleaned out the Internet Temporary Files, C:\Windows\Temp\*.* ... it
worked. Took a while though.
