Windows XP Home edition updates never finish installing.

I'm on hour 14 of my windows updates. I can't use my computer, can't turn it
off. It just says that it's updating, but it's still on 1 of 9 since it
started. Is that normal? I've never seen it before.

Theoretically, at least, Windows should be able to recover from any partially
installed updates when it starts up again.

If you haven't done it already, try disabling your anti virus real time
scanner.
