In the control panel, my automatic updates are set for automatic, but when I
go to Start<Run...<Services.msc<Automatic Updates<Properties they are
disabled. When I try to set them for Automatic or Manual a box pops up that
says Access Denied. I have multiple problems on my PC that need Automatic
Updates. Please help!

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista x64 SP2) when
posting to this newsgroup.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Perhaps your multiple problems relate to a virus !

System may be infected with malware "Vundo"
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Entry.aspx?name=Win32%2fVundo

You cannot manually start the Automatic Updates service and you receive an
"Error 1058" error message on a computer that is running Windows XP or
Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005
