I've been repairing a friends PC and and just coming to the end. Run in to
a problem with the Windrows update service which I've been unable to
resolve.

I'm getting one update; Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 - Security Update for
Microsoft C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (KB2538242), which is continually
being repeated even though it has been successfully installed numerous times
and as confirmed by the Windows Update History log. I've stopped the
windows update service, flushed the software distribution download folder,
restarted the update service and rechecked for updates. Still get the above
wanting to be installed.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do order to stop this continual update
request keep appearing ?

Regards

Check this registry entry and the file versions to see if it has
completely installed -

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Microsoft Visual Studio
2005 Professional Edition - ENU\KB2538218
"Installed" = dword:1

MS11-025: Description of the security update for Visual C++ 2005 SP1
Redistributable Package: June 14, 2011
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2538242

Scroll down to File Information; contrast/compare the files listed per
the system's architecture (x86 or x64).

If the registry information and file versions are correct, then just
Hide the update.

Thanks for your response and apologies for delay in responding: I've been
away for weekend.

I looked in the registry at location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates and cannot find (folder?)
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition - ENU\KB2538218 or
anything relating to Visual Studio 2005.

Could this be the reason/problem ?? If so, what do I need to enter to
correct??

I've currently hidden the update but would like to correct properly.

Regards
