When I go to windows update, it says to install activex control from yellow
bar under address bar. I have tried everything I know. Yellow bar doesn not
appear. I cannot play games or anything until I get this loaded. Help anyone.

I've had the problem with my daughter's PC and have spent several days
scouring various forums for a cure.

Followed your advise and everything works now.

Thankyou...

I tried this and mine was already enabled. Anyone else have a clue what is
wrong?

I tried to follow the steps but if I click the "Enable or Disable add on"
nothing happens, no popups or anything. Please help.

Same problem here, everthing was already enabled, the bar keeps appearing
saying that add-ons are disabled, EVERY ADD-ON I HAVE IS ENABLED. This is a
very frustrating problem, I just want to use internet explorer to update
windows, I cannot use automatic update. Someone please help!

have you tried opeing your ie,click tools, scroll down to internet opt and
click, than click sec tab. than go down and click custom level, a box will
come up, scroll down to script activex and plug-ins and see if the box is
disabled ,if so click the box enabled. than go down and see if script activex
is enabled. click apply, click ok. than you have to restart your comp for
this to take effect. this is as far as i have got with ms to date. iam still
at a stand still but maybe you guys have a minor problem and this is your

does not help! Why can't ActiveX Control be installed without so many steps?

try restarting IE8 with right click and do not hit "run without add-ons",
then find windows update under the tools menu and click on that. Seemed to
work for me

I had no problem last week on 10/3/09 when I went to Microsoft Update. Never
had this problem until today (10/10/09). It's just as everyone is
describing. Right clicking on the Information Bar does not open anything
that includes "Install ActiveX Control". All add-ons are enabled although
the Information Bar says they're not.
I hope someone at Microsoft is reading our messages. Maybe they can make
it possible to get to the Update page by correcting the glitch.

I've been having the same problem. After reading your post, I tried it and
the same thing happened. It worked and I can now do my windows update.
Thanks!

MUwebControlClass enable worked for me, too.

I just wish too-many-billion-dollar Bill would take one of those billions
and fix Windows.
