Which runs faster AVG or MacAfee?

Hi
When we updated MacAfee antivirus from Enterprise v8 to v8.5 (about a
year ago)
our msWindows Server 2003 suddenly started running MUCH slower.
The trouble is that when we did the reboot there were various other
patches etc that got installed at the same time. So now we dont
really know what is causing the problem.
We have now tried install AVG Antivirus on the server instead.
We think it runs a fraction faster and is a fraction cheaper but we
are unsure.
Both seem to catch most viruses OK as far as we can see.
Anyone else done a back to back trial of the two?

Honestly, I'd recommend (at some point) looking into a better
alternative. Linux, FreeBSD or Mac OSX. Some OS where you don't have
to worry about scanning for viruses. I'm not Windows bashing here, I'm
just saying that it's nice to not worry about viruses.

I have never noticed a speed difference between Enterprise v7.x, v8.0i and v8.5i.
I have v8.7i and I'll have to give that a shot.

Sorry no ... but if the two look similar then I'd be inclined to go for AVG
simply as a way of showing support to the company because they support so
many people by giving free anti-virus for personal use.

Manager window DOUBLED in size. No less than half the processes
running were McAfee stuff. What I do know about McAfee is: it is a
resource HOG.

Generally, when something seems to take longer it is because it is doing
more (or being less efficient at doing the same amount). You have to
decide where to draw the line between how much gets done at what cost.
Speed isn't your real issue here, it is efficiency. My guess is that AVG
is slightly less capable than McAfee but the computing cost is higher
with McAfee.
Are you trying to protect the server, or just filter out stored (served)
malware?

You are talking about the Retail version. This concerns the Enterprise version. The
Retail and Enterprise products are as different as night and day.
